Reflets

How Reflets is made

Reflets is written with the help of artificial intelligence. We say so because it is true, and because a review about what machines reveal about us should be clear about the part they play in its own work.

What we cover

One common thread: what machines reveal about us. Every study, robot or exhibition is read as a mirror of human psychology.

Four sections: studies (what research actually says, with its limits), essays (a stated point of view), exhibits and objects, and news, one a day in each language. News items are chosen for the readers of each language, not translated from one another.

How an article is written

AI models help us search the sources and draft. We always start from sources we can read in full: the study, the bill, the statement, then the press.

Before anything is published, a tool checks that every figure and every quotation appears in the text of a source we read. A quotation is reproduced word for word, otherwise it becomes indirect speech. A paywalled or unreadable page cannot carry a figure. Sources are listed at the end of every article.

Then the Strugggl team reads the whole article against its sources and decides to publish it. No article goes out without that human review.

Our sources

In order of credibility: peer-reviewed journals, then the main scientific conferences, then preprints from identified research groups, flagged as preprints. A company blog can shed light on a mechanism, and we then name the conflict of interest.

We never cite a study known only through a press article, and never a preprint alone to support a strong claim.

What we do not cover

Suicide and self-harm, minors, lawsuits and accusations against named people or companies. These subjects need work our method does not guarantee.

Images and voice

Our covers are AI-generated illustrations, credited "Illustration: Reflets / Strugggl". Photos come from press kits or open licences, and are credited.

The audio version of articles is read by an AI-generated synthetic voice, labelled on the player. It imitates no real person.

Reusing our illustrations

Our cover illustrations, credited "Illustration: Reflets / Strugggl", are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, adapt and use them, commercially too, as long as you credit "Reflets / Strugggl" with a link to the original article.

Photos from press kits or other licences keep their author's terms, given in their credit.

Our conflict of interest

Reflets is published by Strugggl, which offers conversations with AI personas. We therefore write about a sector we are part of. Articles do not discuss our products. Only a box at the end suggests personas related to the subject.

Corrections

When we correct the substance of an article, it shows "Updated" with the date. To report an error, write to us from the contact page.
